This exhibition focuses on the point of intersection between contemporary art and architecture, and through the artistic filter of one of the most influential architects of the last 30 years. The exhibition is jointly presented by Ace Museum and the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc.) The scope of the exhibition will explore the impact of Peter Noever's influence in the fields of architecture, design, and contemporary art, both in the US and abroad.
As a pioneer in architecture, Noever has been the recipient of numerous international architecture awards; he has researched and exhibited the implications of architecture throughout Eastern Europe in the wake of the Cold War; he has written countless articles and several books on topics ranging beyond architecture, to design and media; he served as the Director of the MAK (Museum of Applied Arts / Contemporary Art), Vienna and founder of the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles where he established a program promoting creative dialogue between Vienna and Los Angeles. His influence in the design industry and museum curating are as significant as his contributions to architecture.
SCI-Arc has compiled an exhibition of Noever's influence and accomplishments, presenting a collaboration of artists and architects from all over the world who are producing images and replicas of works previously exhibited under the auspices of his work as an architect/curator. In addition to this retrospective of past works, SCI-Arc has produced a space-specific exhibition design to accompany this lineage of historical and contemporary works, presenting the viewer with a contrived environment and exposing the capacity to which innovative architecture can alter not only the space we inhabit, but also the very way a space is experienced and utilized.
